As we approach the halfway mark of 2025, JCI Sandton is proud to launch our final and most heartfelt project of the year—a transformative initiative designed to restore dignity and unlock opportunity for over 30 high school girls. In partnership with Classroom Buddies, we are addressing an urgent yet often overlooked reality: too many young women face obstacles to their education and self-esteem simply because they lack access to basic hygiene products.
This is not just a campaign—it’s a call to act with empathy, intention, and impact.
We begin in June with a toiletry donation drive focused on collecting essential items — such as sanitary pads, deodorant, lotion, toothpaste, and soap — the kinds of everyday necessities many of us take for granted. But for some girls, these products mean everything: they are the difference between confidence and insecurity, between attending school and staying home, and between feeling seen and feeling forgotten. These items will be packaged into personalised dignity packs, a tangible affirmation of care, support, and solidarity.
But our project doesn’t end with donations. It builds toward something more profound.
At the end of August—in celebration of Women’s Month in South Africa—we will host an interactive empowerment workshop for the girls receiving dignity packs. This workshop is about creating space. A space for learning, for sharing, for healing. A space where young women can engage on crucial topics like career development, personal confidence, and safety. A space where they can start seeing the future not as something to fear, but something to shape.
At JCI Sandton, we are guided by the African Union’s Agenda 2063, particularly Aspiration 6: “An Africa whose development is people-driven, relying on the potential of African people, especially its women and youth.” This initiative is a direct expression of that vision. We are not in the business of charity — we are in the business of transformation. Of offering real tools, building real confidence, and inspiring real change.
The need is real. In South Africa, 7.7 million menstruating women and girls (35%) lack the financial means to purchase sanitary products. Over 4 million miss education and training for an average of 5 days per month due to period poverty. These are not isolated cases—they are part of a larger, systemic crisis that continues to erode girls’ access to education, confidence, and opportunity.
That’s where you come in.
By donating a toiletry pack or sponsoring a girl’s participation in this program, you are doing far more than meeting a material need. You are standing up for dignity. You are championing education. You are investing in a future where young African women can rise, lead, and thrive—not despite their circumstances, but because someone believed they could.
This is the kind of Africa we are working to build—one where no girl is left behind because of poverty, shame, or silence.
We invite individuals, businesses, and community partners to join us. Your contribution—no matter the size—becomes part of a collective act of empowerment. Let’s end this year not only with impact but with intention. Let’s walk alongside these young women as they step into their futures with pride and purpose.
